Uniku Must Be More Sensitive In
Online Larning Policies
Over the past few
months since corona pandemic, 94% of Indonesian tertiary institutions have
conducted online lectures which is consistent with the development of online
lectures since 1980. However, online learning that took place as a surprise
from the Covid-19 pandemic, shocked almost all lines, from districts / cities,
provinces, and centers. Then since the introduction of online learning,
educational institutions have faced various obstacles. In response, the
Ministry of Education began to revise the curriculum during the pandemic. But
not at the university level, Acting Director General of Higher Education (Tribunnews.com),
Nizam said that the learning process in higher education does not require an
emergency curriculum.
As UNIKU students, we
understand that educational institutions are not really ready for online
learning, So far online learning is only as a technical tool, not as a way of thinking,
as a learning paradigm. We haven't really jumped in even though we've used it,
then we experienced some obstacles when move to forced online learning,
students haven’t got good quality. That’s why the support and cooperation of
the lecturers and the Uniku itself in terms of utilizing online learning
technology needs to be improved.
Based on Journal by
Steven R. Aragon with the title “Facilitating Learning in Online Environtments”,
effective online education is a blend of pedagogy, technology, and
organizational support, so that learning objectives can be achieved well. But
in fact, the faculty doesn’t support their student enough, then we can’t play
an active role exploring the increased interaction opportunity that online
learning provides. In this case we don’t talk about technology, but its use. The
low initiative of lecturers in online learning doesn’t provide maximum service,
they just uploading lecture material, giving instructions and assignments
without giving feedback and assessment and don’t think about learning experience
for students. We need active learning regularly, we need meeting in virtual
class even once in two weeks, but there is no PBI lecturer who hold synchronous learning.
The faculty should make
more detailed and in-depth policies regarding online lectures. they should
require virtual face-to-face lectures at least once every 2 weeks, giving
students the choice of learning media, such as;
a. Full
Zoom Meet
b. Full
Google Meet
c. Presentation
via Zoom then continue with discussing via whatsapp
d. Presentation
via Google meet then continue with discussing via whatsapp
e. Discussing
via discord app
Besides that, the
lecturers should provide more interesting learning model, make an active
learning such as make a variety of challenges every week with fun activities.
So that, students can produce good output and get ready to progress.
As a student, we
understand that online learning needs to get support from various parties.
Student support, lecturer and institutional support, interaction with faculty,
feedback quality, course structure , meaningful contents, evaluation and
assessment as crucial for successful online learning.
